In 1957, Texas Plymouth dealer Bob Hooper took control of a brand new Plymouth Savoy (model P31-2) after it was built at Plymouth’s Evansville, Indiana plant. Not too soon after, Hooper parked the sedan in a Texas barn. For nearly two decades the Savoy sat untouched and out of the harsh Texas elements. Sadly in 1975 Hooper passed away after living a full life.

A year later his heirs swung open the doors to a large building owned by the deceased Hooper, in it sat not only this Plymouth Savoy, but 15 other vehicles from the mid 30’s to the mid 50’s. All of which only had 40 or less miles logged on them. Fast-forward over 40 years and this ’57 Plymouth Savoy is still as breathtaking today as when Hopper drove it into that fateful barn in 1957.

Today the Savoy sits with only 31 original miles on the odometer. For most of its life since being pulled from the barn, the Savoy has only been taken out into direct sunlight when it was taking home awards at car shows.

The majority of the body is still coated in the original Robin Egg Blue two-tone paint, only a small touch up was performed where a car cover wore a soft spot in the paint. The body features the towering fins that were famous in the late 50’s, and still rides on the original tires and rims that it left the factory with.

Powering the Savoy is the Original 301ci V8 that was rated to pump out 215hp at 4400RPMS in 1957. The engine at one time was taken out of the Savoy for the sole purpose of being detailed. After it was cleaned it was placed back in the engine bay and was assembled using the original parts. Bolted to the engine is the original Carter two-barrel carburetor and the original two-speed automatic transmission. A further glance under the vehicle will show the original torsion bars, live axle, leaf springs and drum brakes. The battery had to be replaced after sitting for nearly twenty years in the barn, but the reproduction 12-volt looks like it could be.

Inside the interior is incredibly preserved, and showcases the unique features that made the ’57 Savoy popular. Stare out the massive window and you will see the 29% increase in glass size from the previous year. This meant you also had the introduction of oversized sun visors and oversized windshield wipers. You will also notice the vision of the future that the cars designer’s had with the uncommonly shaped steering wheel, the bright interior work, and textured upholstery.

The sale of this Savoy includes the original M.S.O., owner’s manual, 1957 advertising, Walter p. Chrysler news article, and photos from when the Plymouth was removed from the barn. Don’t miss your chance to own this surviving piece of automotive history.
