The appropriately named ZL-55 started out life as an original rust free 1955 2dr hardtop body. After the body was dipped, the customizing started. The owners removed the gas tank lid on the driver’s side, removed all trunk and hood ornaments, customized the floor pan, custom inner and outer rockers, custom wheel openings, and shaved the door handles just to name a few. Even the bumpers were custom fitted with a nomad center section and triple plated on both sides . Painted with a special blend of PPG paint, the result is a 1955 Chevy that has a stunning look that has to be seen in person to truly appreciate.

When it came time to decide on a motor the build team decided to go with an original ZL1 all aluminum 427 that has seen racing action. Coming with a letter of authenticity, the 427 was used by famous road racer Gene Felton. This 427 was used in Felton’s #96 Camaro, and even won two races in Daytona in 1972 and 1973. The stamp pad of the engine bears Felton’s name and has been built using only the finest parts. Built the Hinkle Performance, the chromed out ZL1 now pumps out a serious 550hp. Even the exhaust system is handmade, over $8,000 has been spent on just the exhaust. However what’s even more impressive is the $50,000 spent on chrome plating for the vehicle.

Glance under the 1955 body and you will find an immaculate Roadster Shop custom frame that houses the ZL1 beast. Bolted to the ZL1 is a Tremec 5-speed which feeds the over 500 horses through a custom driveshaft which has also been chrome plated, to a Currie rear-end. Body color was incorporated throughout the underside of the vehicle, and it looks just as good as the exterior. Six piston wildwood brakes are responsible for slowing the ZL55, and they are found at all four corners.

Inside the car you will find a completely customized leather interior performed by Tracy Weaver of the Recovery room, that finishes off the incredible look of the ZL-55. The response to the ’55 Chevy has been tremendous. In 2012 it was a Great 8 finalist, Goodguy’s Builders choice , and a fab 5 winner at the shades of the past. And so far in 2013 it has continued to rack up awards as it was named the Super Chevy gold class car and car of the show winner.

This ’55 isn’t your standard tri-five chevy. The amount of work and thought that went into this one ride is mind boggling. Don’t miss your chance to own this one of a kind ’55.
